A major flaw that Animaker’s background music has is that it cannot be easily edited in the Animaker program. This issue was brought up by an Animaker Tips supporter who recently asked me “how do you fade the music in Animaker?”
I tried to solve this problem by attempting to download the “Ambitious Day” Animaker song. However, Animaker wouldn’t allow me to download the music.
So I knew that the only way to add a fade out effect to this song was to record it in Audacity. After recording the track, I was able to add a professional fade in and fade out effect to the song.
In this tutorial, I will show you how I used Audacity to easily fade the “Ambitious Day” Animaker song.
Step 1: Get an Animaker Account
In order to follow this tutorial, you will need to click on the “Try Animaker” button. This button will refer you to the Animaker website. The button contains my affiliate link.
This means that if you decide to upgrade from Animaker’s free account to the premium account. Animaker Tips will receive a commission from the sale.
There is no additional cost to you. This is a just a great way to support the Animaker Tips blog.
So after clicking the button, you will be sent to the website. You will need to create your Animaker account by clicking the signup button.
Step 2: Open Your Animaker Project
After you sign up, you will need to click the big get started button. This action will open up a variety of explainer video templates that you can use in your explainer videos.
Since this tutorial is designed to only show you how to fade Animaker’s background music in Audacity, you will simply need to click the blank template.
After you open your Animaker project, you will need to click on the Animaker sound icon. This icon will open up the sound library which contains Animaker’s background music.
For this tutorial, you will need to play the “Ambitious Day” song; which is located at the top of the music library.
As you listen to the song, you will immediately notice that Animaker’s background music doesn’t have a fade in effect. As you approach the end of the song, you will notice that the song’s fade out effect is not very strong.
The best way to fix this problem is to record and edit the song in Audacity.
Step 3: Download the Audacity Software
You will need to go the Audacity website, and download the Audacity software that fits your computer’s preferences. Since I am currently working with a Windows computer, I decided to click the Audacity installer for Windows.
After you click the link, you will be given two download options; Audacity installer or Audacity zip folder. You will need to pick the Audacity installer because it is the easiest way to download the Audacity program into the computer.
As soon as you click the link, you will need to first save and then run the Audacity installer exe program. This will take through the standard process of installing the Audacity program into your computer.
Step 4: Download the LAME Extension
When you are finished installing the program, Audacity will automatically appear on your screen. This is the software that you are going to use to record the song.
The next step is to download the LAME Extension settings that will enable you to turn your recordings into mp3 files. This program is important to download because Animaker only allows mp3 files.
So go to the LAME extension site, and download the LAME v 3.99.3 for Windows exe file. After clicking this link, you will go through the standard process of installing this program into your computer.
Step 5: Adjust Your Computer’s Recording Settings
Now that you have Audacity and the Lame Mp3 extension, it is now time to adjust your computer’s recording settings. You will need to go to your control panel, and click on the Hardware and Sounds tab.
After doing this, you will click the sound icon, and then click the recording tab.
When you open up this tab, you will see two recording options. The first option is the speaker, and the second one is the stereo mix.
The advantage of choosing the stereo mix option is it enables you to record any audio that is being played in your computer.
So make sure to click the stereo mix option, and then press the set default button. After doing this, press OK.
Step 6: Troubleshooting the Stereo Mix Recording Settings
Now if you opened the recording tab, and you discovered that you don’t have the stereo mix option. You will need to right click the white space in the recording tab section.
When you do this you will get two options. The options that will come up will be labeled “Show Disabled Drivers” and “Show Disconnected Devices”.
You will need to make sure that you select both of these options. This will enable you to activate the stereo mix recording setting.
The last computer recording adjustment that you need to do is to set your speaker’s volume to at least 60 percent. This will enable Audacity to record the song at a high and clear volume.
Remember it is always better to record any audio at a high volume because it will make it easier to edit it in Audacity.
Step 7: Adjust Audacity Recording Settings
The next step is to adjust the recording settings in Audacity. If you look at the picture below, you will see four columns that are located at the top of your screen.
Your goal is to make sure that your four columns match the Audacity settings that are depicted in the picture below.
- First Column- Select the MME option
- Second Column- Pick the stereo mix option
- Third Column- Choose the stereo recording option
- Fourth Column- You should select your computer’s speakers
The last Animaker setting that you need to change is the recording and playback volume settings. You will need to move the scale for both volume settings to be about 0.6 or 60%.
Now after making this adjustment, you simply need to press the red circle button/ record button. If you properly set the computer and Audacity settings, you will notice that a straight line will appear when you click the record button.
The straight line that you see means that the audio is not picking up any noise that is outside the computer such as fan noise, people talking, and etc. Now when you go to Animaker and record the song, you will see that a waveform will appear as soon as we play the song on your computer.
Step 8: Recording Animaker’s Background Music
Now you will need to go to Animaker’s music library. You will need to first press the record button in Audacity. When you do this, you will notice that the same straight line will appear in the program.
Now you will need to play the “Ambitious Day” song. As you play the music, you will immediately notice that a waveform will appear in Audacity.
This means that the Audacity software is currently recording Animaker’s background music.
After the song has finished playing, you will need to press the yellow square/stop button in Audacity. Now when you look at the track, you will notice that a large section at the beginning and at the end of the track has no noise.
You will need to delete some of the blank noise from the track by placing and dragging your cursor on the section that contains the blank noise.
After selecting this highlighted area, you will simply press the delete button on your keyboard.
After you have finished trimming some of the blank noise from Animaker’s background music, you will need to press the play button in the Audacity program.
You should now have a clear recording of the “Ambitious Day” song. Since you have recorded the song, you are now ready to add some awesome fading effects to this music.
Step 9: Adding a Fade Out Effect To This Song
The first effect that you are going to add to this song is the fade out effect. Basically this effect will gradually decrease the volume of the song.
It is ideal to place this effect near the end of this music. So I want you to place you cursor at the 25.5 second marker. After doing this, press the play button.
When you listen to the track, you notice that there is a small fade out effect at the end of the song. However, this effect was not strong enough to be noticed. So the best way to fix this problem is to add a professional fade in effect to this song using Audacity.
You can add this effect by pressing the cursor at the 25.5 second marker, and then drag it towards the end of the song. You screen should look like the picture below.
After highlighting this section, you will need click the effect bar that is located at the top of the Audacity menu. You will need to scroll down and click the fade out effect.
This will decrease the original wavelength. If you preview the section again, you will notice that the fade out effect is much stronger.
If you feel that you want to strengthen the effect, you will highlight the area again, and then repeat the same process.
Step 10: Adding a Fade In Effect To This Song
The second effect that you are going to add to this song is the fade in effect. This effect will gradually increase the volume of the song.
The best place to add this effect is usually at the beginning of any background music. You will need to scroll to the beginning of the song, and place the cursor at the 0 second marker.
I want you to play the music from the 0 second marker to the 3 second marker.
If you paid attention to the track, you will notice that the song does not fade in at all.
So to fix this problem, you will simply need to highlight the song from the 0 second marker to the 3 second marker.
As soon as you finish highlighting this area, you will need to click the effects toolbar, and scroll down until you find fade in. Once you find it, you will need click on it.
You should notice that the beginning of the wavelength will start out small, but it will gradually increase as you keep listening to the song.
If you want to increase this effect, you will need to highlight the section again, and click the fade in effect. Alright you now ready to export your newly edited song to Animaker.
Step 11: Exporting Animaker’s Background Music
When it comes to exporting Animaker’s background music in Audacity, there is one important rule to follow. You should always make sure that you export the audio as an mp3 file.
To export this background song, you will need to click the file button; which is located at the top left of the Audacity menu. Scroll down and click export audio.
Now when the export menu pops up, you will need to change the file type from wav to mp3. After doing this, you will need to add a title to the audio file, and then export it to your computer. Now you are ready to upload this newly edited song into Animaker.
Step 12: Uploading the Song to Animaker
The first step to uploading a new audio file into Animaker is to click the import icon. When you click this button, you will need to select the sound category.
You should now click the upload button that is directly underneath the sound category. I will need you to find the location where you exported the newly edited song.
After you find the song, you will need to click open to upload the file into Animaker. Since this is a background music, you will simply need to place this music in the background music category.
The last step is to click save. You should now see that the song has been placed into the background music category.
Step 13: Play the Song
The last important step required to play this song in Animaker is to first access the audio layer in Animaker. If you look at the picture below, you will need to click the sound layer button that is located in the timeline.
Now click and drag the newly edit background music into this sound layer. If you did it correctly, you screen should look like the picture below. You will notice that the song that you placed in the timeline will have a play button icon.
All you will need to do is to click that button, in order to listen to newly edited song.
Hooray!!! You have learned how to fade Animaker’s background music using Audacity. I hope you learned the most important lesson from this tutorial.
Since Animaker currently doesn’t allow you to download its songs, you can always record the song using the stereo mix settings. This tool is definitely helpful for any explainer video creator who wants to properly mix or edit the background music that are provided by Animaker.
